Puppy Love
I had no idea that we needed a puppy. My family said, you need a companion, you have an empty nest, you have to get a farm dog. I said, no. I said, No. I said, NO.
Boy, was I wrong. Clare came happily into our lives last week, and I assure you, there is not a dog receiving more attention within a 1000 mile radius.
Just look at her. This is her "tired puppy laying in the grass pose."
Of course we needed this precious soul in our lives! Nearly perfect. She was crate trained when we brought her home, and we are nearly as spoiled as she is. We have found ourselves spending every night on the patio, watching her learn "fetch," and "stay," and "no." Needless to say, she is brilliant.
Well, after all, the Thunder were out of the playoffs, and I was a bit bored with my television choices. That, coupled with the fact, that the fireplace is closed up for the season, I am not bored loving our girl.
We believe we have had every type of cattle dog there is. But this is our first Australian Shepherd. And when it comes to animals, we figure we are on the low end of dog ownership. We have had relatively few family pets, because they have lived long lives.
Although we live in town, we encounter all kinds of wildlife. In the yard alone, we have seen snakes, (yes, all kinds - that's all I'm going to say), red foxes, and so many turtles, we started writing names on their shells. Don't tell PETA.
