As the kids continue to search for a place to live, we are in a bit of a holding pattern. They have seen something they like, but nothing is signed on the dotted line. So each day, we try to learn something. Yesterday, we went back to the center of the city. It was morning, and we set out for the biggest open air market in town, the Albert Cuyp markt. Yes, that's the way it is spelled, and it is hard to pronounce. As is every word in Nederlands for me. It wasn't very busy, but I think that was good, because the first thing I saw was a "Pickpockets Everywhere" sign. The market was not a big shopping victory for us, but we saw some interesting things.
Beautiful and pre-arranged flowers. You couldn't touch super fresh florals like this at such a great price at home. Fragrant and gorgeous.
I was a bit partial to these. But since I don't frequently buy fresh lilies, I have no idea when they will open or how long they would last...
Honestly, it was hard for me to get in close for this picture. The smell was so strong, and I am not a fan of heavy, raw fish smells.
I just couldn't stay away from the fresh flowers. They were there in abundance.
This was something I didn't expect to run into at the big market. Hair? It's like a flea market. There is no telling how many previous owners these hairpieces had before they made it to this booth. Eeeeek.
Apparently, there is no need to stick to or even near your natural color.
After the short market experience, we were near the Red Light District, and we figured it was about the safest time to visit. For your information, at 10:30 on a Monday morning, it is pretty quiet. Surprisingly, there were a few girls working, but absolutely no photographs are allowed there, and that was a rule I had no reason to challenge. We did see red lights. We did see women. None of it was very pretty, but we checked it out.
It was all tourist mode today, but tomorrow, we are back to business.
