It was another fun day in France. Mr. I-Didn't-Know-Anything-About-France and I went to Strasbourg. He was a bit more prepared, and made me do all the talking because I took French at the highest levels 30 years ago and remember a bit of it. Merci, Mme. Q! The weather was unseasonably beautiful, and our tour took us to the center of the city. We walked through the narrow and winding streets, while learning about the governmental alignment, (we had high tech listening devices, no really, we did), we photographed gargoyles, and saw the Cathedral in Old Town.
The scenery was beautiful, and fresh Christmas trees were everywhere. There were several UNESCO World Heritage sites, and we felt like the day was perfect.
The pictures may not have been perfect, but the day was. It was beautiful.
We enjoyed the fact that you could travel in and out of any EU country you wanted without carrying your passport or other credentials. That was unbelievable to us. I can't even buy something locally with a credit card without showing my drivers' license or other proof of identity. But I didn't exactly see anyone carrying guns or weapons of any kind, either.
The scenery and decorations were over the top everywhere we went. We found lunch in a pub, and NO ONE spoke any English. Proudly, we successfully ordered things we knew and liked and local beverages that we loved. Still haven't met a glass of Cotes du Rhone that I didn't like.
